ABOUT

This is the Brewery Gulch Inn. The 10-room Mendocino Inn, designed by architect Caroline La Pere, is a worthy tribute to those ancient trees, with a central common room and dining area built around a huge four-sided fireplace made of glass and welded steel plates by a local shipbuilder. The North Coast is magical during the holidays. See the lighting of the tree in town, participate in Christmas at the Ford House museum; visit inns along the coast during the Candlelight Inn Tour; marvel at the lighted trucks in the Holiday of Lights parade; ride the Christmas Train; take in the beautiful Festival of Lights at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens. The heart and soul of Brewery Gulch, the enormous Great Room, is anchored by an iconic, four-sided glass and steel fireplace fabricated by a local shipbuilder. This gathering place is filled with light tumbling down from the central core’s three-story high skylight and flooding in from a bank of 13-foot high, redwood-trimmed French doors overlooking Smuggler’s Cove. Guests can relax in a comfortable living room seating area with overstuffed furniture in the style of Gustav Stickley. Surrounding this area are tables of quarter-sawn oak where guests sample the chef’s creations. A small library of books; an amazing 500+ DVD collection featuring classic, contemporary and foreign films; and an extensive selection of games can be found along the south wall of the Great Room. A guest computer and printer with Internet access is located on a desk across from the reception desk. A large selection of coffees and teas, along with fresh pastries and fruit, can be found on the sidebar in the Great Room. Soothing earth tones, tasteful furnishings, and a Zen-like style and ambience connect this inn to the California coast. All of our individual guest rooms, with the exception of the Meadowview Suite, feature ocean views. All accommodations have gas fireplaces, down comforters and pillows (hypoallergenic option available), feather beds, Sferra fine linens, turndown service on request, Asprey and Molton Brown bath products, Abyss thick cotton towels, lighted makeup mirrors, Giessdorf showerheads, flat panel televisions with built-in DVD players and Direct TV, iHome clock radios, WiFi access, complimentary local and long distance calls, plush robes, fresh flowers and rich leather club chairs for relaxing by the fire. Standing on the balcony of the Osprey room might satisfy a lingering childhood fantasy of living in a treehouse. ─ Travel and Leisure
